GRIP Volunteer facilitator
Judy Kay
Seven years ago, Judy began volunteering in the Restorative Justice Program at San Quentin. She knew immediately that she had discovered her passion; working with incarcerated men to help them rehabilitate to become the best version of themselves. In August 2021 she began working in GRIP tribes, first with Fateen Jackson, and more recently with Bernard Moss. She finds this work to be important, real, meaningful and courageous. Judy understands that we are all human. With deep work, looking closely at ourselves and becoming accountable, we can facilitate change and see the student’s transformation to Peacemakers.
Judy spent 25 years in the higher education field. Her interpersonal skills were developed in an earlier career where she managed up to 20 direct reports. She has been a participant in an ongoing weekly mediation group for about 10 years.
