One year ago, after completing my career as a workers’ compensation attorney and then  judge, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to GRIP, where I began sitting in on Fateen’s tribe in San Quentin. For the 10 or so years prior, I had already been volunteering at the San Francisco County Jail in a program where incarcerated men read books on tape to their children. I am now assigned as a GRIP volunteer facilitator in training to work with tribes at CMF and Avenal, which I love.
