GRIP Facilitator

Fanon Figgers

Once incarcerated for over two decades, Fanon now lives his life as a Peacemaker and GRIP facilitator at Avenal State Prison. He knows what it means to have counted the cost and he looks to serve as a beacon of light and to be an example of what change can look like. Fanon is inspired to change the trajectory of what it means to be system-impacted, and to show the good one can do for society once you have looked at, dealt with, and grown from the events of the past.

The knowledge and tools Fanon has obtained from his experience with GRIP has given him the power to stand tall and to know that he is not just his last bad decision. He is deeply grateful to be a part of an organization that works towards lifting up the formerly incarcerated, and that serves as a support system for those who have been released. Today Fanon lives and walks with a purpose, and he is called to spread the powerful gift of healing. Fanon works as a work specialist with the Union of Auto Workers Labor Employment and Training Corporation (UAW-LETC).
